Welcome to Altitude Fine Art and thank you for visiting our website. Please let me take this opportunity to briefly explain our gallery’s mission and purpose.
It is apparent that in recent decades, indeed throughout much of the Twentieth Century, numerous prominent artists and the movements they inspired have emphasized the importance of “individual expression” as the prime driving force behind their creative undertakings. While this emphasis has led to some interesting developments, today it frequently serves as an excuse for abandoning the fundamental skills gained in rigorous classical study and prerequisite for the creation of a masterpiece in any medium. The unfortunate but predictable result is a glut of work whose ultimate importance and value is questionable at best.
Moreover, this tendency away from discipline and true merit in the name of other expression has been conveniently exploited by entrepreneurial individuals to influence critics and curators, and thereby collectors. The “Art Market” is rife with stories of collusion and nepotism, of media manipulation and price fixing that characterize a world more concerned with art as commodity than a testament to the pursuit of excellence. It is abundantly clear that the consequence of this manipulation has in fact been seriously detrimental to the art world.
There is no question that at Altitude Fine Art we are dedicated to putting the last nail in the coffin of this period, which art history will likely view as superficial at best. We are proud to represent an international cross-section of highly accomplished and unquestionably talented artists, whether or not as yet renowned. We seek the return to an uncompromising environment where there is never any doubt as to the merit of what we exhibit or the capability of its creator, and we invite you to join us on this exciting adventure.
Again, thank you for your interest and support,
Christopher Rote.
